At Game Ready we have been so fortunate to develop relationships with Professionals from varying backgrounds but all who have found that fitness is an essential part of their success, careers and happiness. From the musical talents of Asha Mevlana, to Chef Matt’s hot kitchen and trying to keep up with Ryan Van Duzer’s on-the-go lifestyle, we’ve continued to learn how our passion is a pillar for the success of so many others and are so excited to introduce our next athlete.
Our athlete this month is the wonderful Mehgan Heaney-Grier! She’s a renowned Free Dive Champion whose professionalism in the underwater arena has landed her jobs as a stunt double (like for Kiera Knightly in Pirates and Jessica Alba in Into the Blue) and has allowed her to travel around the world as a marine conservationist and explorer for Discover Channel’s Treasure Quest: Snake Island. She’s passionate about protecting her arena, the world’s oceans, and as luck would have it, is focused on her own health and wellness practices too. But enough from us…let’s talk more Mehgan.
What is your Profession?
I am an ocean adventurer through and through – specifically I am an expedition leader and marine educator and television personality. My driving forces are marine conservation, exploration and outreach, with freediving being the thread that ties it all together! Still so many exciting places to go, collaborations to have and ideas to share ; )
What does fitness mean in your Profession?
Fitness is paramount in all that I do. More often than not, and especially when I’m out in the field I tend to be in demanding, and often dangerous environments and circumstances. Being physically and mentally ready for whatever might come my way is key to my wellbeing and safety out in the field… and fitness is the foundation for that!
Do you eat a certain way or follow a particular nutrition plan?
I can sum it up with “heathy eating” but that is sustainable for me. I eat what I want to, and am not one to “diet” – I do have a sweet tooth and like a nice cold happy hour brew as well. When I am training for an expedition or a particular job, I eat clean and do my “rip up plan”, eating mostly whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies, and lots of rice and beans…with hot sauce – a total favorite for me! Product of growing up in South Florida ; )
What are your hobbies?
I love to road trip, and wander – experience and explore. Any and all things water, and the great outdoors! I am also a fixer – in my “spare” time I tick things off the home project list, you name it – from carpentry and pluming to laying tile and running fence – I really enjoy improving things around me.
That’s all with Mehgan today but stay tuned as we head into how her experiences have helped to shape her routine and her priorities.
We also have some awesome news to share on Mehgan’s front! So don’t miss the next installment!
